ramon the proposal: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

It’s been exactly one year since I left my position as the Executive Director of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and went on a quest to rebrand the whole body of knowledge and practice associated with building and renovating. I am now ready to tackle the first challenge of rebranding the standards themselves.

The first challenge is to rename the American National Standards Institute. This is a topic that is a little thorny enough in its own right. I have been trying to get the discussion going on this issue for many years, and the ANSI is the only organization that has been successful at this. But there are still a few small but vocal skeptics. I have tried to talk about this with all of the members of the ANSI, but this has not been an easy task.

I know the ANSI is not perfect, but I do think they’ve done a good job of making the standards clear and easy to understand. This is why I have been very open and transparent about my objections in the past about the “sloppy” standards.

It is not that I am opposed to the ANSI standards but I am against the practices that they have adopted. With this in mind, I will be participating in the latest ANSI summit in October. There are few things worse than participating in an event like that with so many people who have nothing to say about your topic. The best thing is that I will be able to express my objections to the others at the meeting.

Ramon is one of the most vocal people on the proposal. While I wish he would actually do some of this work, it’s not just because he’s a dick in general. He’s also a dick in ANSI-speak, and it’s one of the few things I’m willing to make an exception for him. The problem is that the standard is an extremely loose one. The only thing that I’m sure of is that the standard will probably be revised after a few days.

Not only is the issue incredibly simple, but its not even the problem. Ive already had three people that have asked me to discuss it and have been unwilling to do so. The standard that I proposed isnt very strict. It would be nice if a more standard proposal could be made.

It is a very simple problem.

The problem is that the standard is very loose, and Im not sure that more stringent wording is needed. Its very simple, but its a problem that I find myself dealing with on a daily basis. Ive been asked by 3 people to make a proposal for it. Ive been advised that no proposal will be made.

Why is this? Its simple. It does not make sense to me that the standard is so loose. It is because its so easy to say something that is not a good idea. The problem is that I cant make a proposal because I don’t know what it is, or how to respond to questions about it. I also don’t know the standard that is going to be applied to it. Thats why I have asked to make a proposal.
